GNU troff has two new maintainers:

  Ted HARDING <Ted.Hard...@nessie.mcc.ac.uk>
  Werner LEMBERG <w...@gnu.org>

We want to say thank you to James Clark <j...@jclark.com>, the original
author of groff, for his marvellous program. Apparently, he has no
time to maintain it further so we are trying to fill this gap.

Please note that currently only bugs will be fixed; enhancing the
groff package will be delayed to the future due to lack of time.

As a first step, we have created a CVS repository which can be
accessed anonymously:

  export CVSROOT=:pserver:anon...@anoncvs.ffii.org:/var/cvs
  cvs login
  cvs -z5 co groff

Alternatively, you can download a daily snapshot resp. a diff file to
the last official release from the directory

  ftp://ftp.ffii.org/pub/groff/devel

FFII (Association for the Promotion of a Free Informational
Infrastructure) has kindly provided the CVS host which is located in
Munich, Germany.

Please discuss groff related issues on the new help-gr...@gnu.org mailing
list. Bug reports can go to bug-gr...@gnu.org.

Sigh! I hope this is the final release in this year. As usual in the
last days, incorrectly applied fixes caused a new version to appear.

For your convenience, diffs and xdelta files are also available.

In case you've never used xdelta: It is a binary variant of the patch
program; the latest version (1.1.1) is available from

  ftp://ftp.xcf.Berkeley.edu/pub/xdelta

A typical command to apply a delta file is

  xdelta patch groff-1.13.-1.14.tar.gz.xdelta

which will patch groff-1.13.tar.gz to create groff-1.14.tar.gz.
