SCO Improves NOS with Update to Successful File and Print Solution
SANTA CRUZ, CA (February 18, 1997) - SCO (NASDAQ:SCOC) today announced the
availability of SCO Advanced File and Print Server release 3.5.2, the newest
version of its networking software that extends the capabilities of SCO
OpenServer Release 5, delivering Windows integration for small and large
enterprise environments. Additions in this new release include Windows NT
4.0 compatibility, a terminal emulator, and localized language support.
SCO Advanced File and Print Server 3.5.2 has expanded functionality and
compatibility, including full interoperability with Windows NT 4.0, allowing
access to shared resources through the server's Internet name or IP address.
Based on the newest Microsoft NT networking technology, SCO Advanced File
and Print Server is also peer-to-peer compatible with Windows NT, bringing
seamless integration to enterprise environments using both SCO OpenServer
systems and Windows NT Servers.
"The power of SCO Advanced File and Print Server is that it provides instant
access to resources on SCO OpenServer systems while requiring a zero
learning curve for the Windows user," said Greg Schwarzer, SCO's director of
Product Marketing, Layered Products. "This allows Windows desktops to be
integrated into both corporate networks and the Internet, sharing critical
business applications, data, files, and printers."
Additional new enhancements include: the addition of SCO TermLite, providing
terminal emulation over TCP/IP or NetBEUI; support for files and directory
names containing mixed-case characters; and the ability for Windows clients
to browse across routers and PPP connections. In addition, the new Advanced
File and Print Server now supports both French and German languages,
enabling global enterprise customers to tailor solutions for specific
geographic regions.
Compliant with the emerging Common Internet File System (CIFS) standard, SCO
Advanced File and Print Server allows customers to easily access shared
files and printers on highly reliable and scaleable SCO servers, from
virtually any desktop on the network. UNIX directories are accessed as
Windows network drives, and UNIX printers are accessed as if they were
connected directly to the desktop PC, without the need for additional client
software. It also allows for centralized server administration with the use
of the Windows NT Server Tools.

SCO Advanced File and Print Server 3.5.2 is priced at $995 for a base 5-user
license. It is available through SCO's more than 7000 resellers and 100
