Please don't flame me, but, where is BSD/386? Has no-one installed it?
I am seriously considering buying it and am astonished it is not being
discussed here. I have looked all around comp.* to no avail.
Please e-mail me with where to go?

If this *is* the right place then has anyone any comments?
Particularly on hardware compatibility and any additional drivers
floating around for any nice devices...

Is it coz BSD/386 costs money and 386bsd doesn't that I have seen no
mention of it?

One more thing, Eric's FAQ and Bake off has been invaluable to me and
I appreciate all the hard work he has put in, perhaps the thread on
rascism can be moved elsewhere: alt.flame? e-mail? No, /dev/null.

To my knowledge, BSD/386 is currently beta or gamma state, and the order form
states something like "(...I ) acknowledge that it is not fit for review"
so I'm not surprised not to see comments on it.

That's part of it. There's a very active mailing list of beta users where the
day to day "gee, how do I make this work" questions get asked and answered.
Whether/when that discussion might migrate to a news group is unclear.

Good question. It's here, plenty of people have installed it. But
nobody talks about it.

Probably one of the main reasons that you don't hear much about it
here is that BSDI are maintaining their own beta testers mail list, in
which significant interaction is possible.

Don't think so. comp.unix.sysv doesn't have that problem.

I previously asked for details on BSD/386 and queried the
(seemingly) amazing lack of chat on the net.

Apparently the Beta testers are using an internal mailing
list for discussions. They are *not* currently allowed to
post to the net. This will be lifted soon, I am told.

I have received lots of info from the beta testers/users
as a result of my article - *many* thanks to all.

All the people who responded had only good things to say.

The restriction has been lifted. Here's an excerpt from a message to the
beta mailing list from Rob Kolstad at BSDI:

...
BSDI MEMO

May 17, 1992

Things are going well here at BSDI. We are finalizing our plans for
the Gamma and production releases. We anticipate having good
schedules in place soon.

As the beta mailing list has evolved and the comp.unix.bsd newsgroup has
continued to run, I think it's time to release our beta users from the
licensing restriction about reviewing or commenting about BSD/386 in
public. So, after discussion with the engineering staff, here's what
we've come up with:

	* By this note, beta customers are released from the restriction about
discussing BSD/386 in newsgroups and other public places.
...

It goes on to say the mailing list will continue, reiterates the bug-reporting
address, and so on.
