I am looking for Source Code Control Systems/Version Control Systems that are
available on UNIX platforms as well as on PCs (DOS/MS-Windows).

Aside from DOS/MS-Windows the following UNIX platforms shall be supported:

		SunOS4.1.x, Solaris 2.x,
		HP-UX 9.x,
		Irix 4.1.x, Irix 5.x,
SINIX 5.41 (Intel), SINIX 5.41 (Risc),
		AIX, Ultrix,
		etc.

Since I know that among the platforms mentioned above there are some very exotic
ones, source code access would be very nice. In particular, public domain or
shareware products are of interest in this context.

Can anybody point me to some products, sources, .... ???

We use PVCS from both DOS and UNIX workstations. The files themselves are
stored on a Novell server. There are tools for both platforms. Since the
file format is the same for both, we can share the files across platforms.
The DOS workstations acess the files using IPX, adn the UNIX workstations
just NFS mount the Novell server. Works great. CB.

I don't know about partability to DOS, but for all of the above above
Unix boxes the best source control solution would be RCS. This can
be used alone or with the RCS front end, CVS.

These tools are both available 'copylefted' from GNU.

We're using PVCS from Intersolv here. It runs on both DOS/MS-Windows and
UNIX platforms. I'm not sure about a contact number but someone else on the
net may be able to lend a hand?

GNU RCS is pretty popular today. It has Unix, X-Window and DOS
version.

I am working on an DOS and Windows(ms-windows) version for the
latest RCS, if you are interested (or anyone is interested), I will
send you a beta version as soon as it is done.

It will have some easy to use and friendly interface take full
advantage to the Windows interface.

Also, if anyone like to join my effort, please tell me.

Software Developers:

I have been seeing a considerate amount of articles looking for RCS systems.
I have been researching and evaluating a muliple of packages.

PCVS is a cross platform RCS for Windows/DOS/Unix/OS/2 This package is the
industry statndard.

CCC/M is a Dos/Windows RCS manager.

SourceSafe is also another Windows/Dos RCS manager.

RCS is also another Windows/Dos/Unix RCS manager.

I have plenty of RCS pacakges on my desk now. I have been looking to buy
one for my company. If anybody needs help finding one, just email me.
I have spoken to just about salesman and they will sell you just
about anything. Being a Software Engineer I know what people need.

Brian

The Gnu version of RCS is a "bound" application, meaning it executes under both
DOS and OS/2. The Gnu version of CVS, however, is a 32-bit app.

RCS, being free for the download, is the world's best bargain in cross-platform
source control systems.

OK - anybody know of a system that includes Macs.

We will be developing os Suns, PCs and Macintosh computers but have found
only solutions (ie rcs) that operate on the pc and suns. No one seems to
support all three.

Cheers,
Peter.
