Subject: Illinois Notesfiles Update

Re: space compaction and sorting newsgroups
The Illinois notesfile system does not queue outgoing notes until
requested -- at which time it queues ONE file per newsgroup. It also
sorts newsgroups and matches responses to the items involved.
Release date is approaching. Our initial release will have news
interfaces -- the incoming news interface came up today.
Almost all the recently expressed netnews "wishes" have already been
incorporated into notes (except compaction of text).

More news (*snicker*) as the release date approaches. We have
several test sites which should be coming on line within the month.
