Since some users may not know this I would like to inform you that
we invite quality uploads to chyde.uwasa.fi, Vaasa, Finland,
128.214.12.3. In particular this is an invitation to users who have
their own good programs which the user would like to see distributed
using anonymous ftp. (Asking for users' own programs does not
exclude uploading useful general PD and shareware programs, as
well).
Of course, we would especially like to see quality programs from
Finland, but note that all the submitted programs and their
documentation must be in English.
All kinds of programs will be considered, but good utilities (which
have general interest) are highest on the list. Documentation
(either self-documentation or in the package) is also required.
Note, that all text file uploads of religious, political, or
support-a-cause nature will be ignored outright.
If you have a package that you would like to upload, put it in our
/incoming directory, and please email an explanation to my fellow
moderator Harri Valkama (h...@chyde.uwasa.fi) and / or myself. Harri
is taking care of almost all the /incoming uploads, while I might
occasionally take part in the process depending on the nature of the
program. The preferred method of packing is .zip.
If you would prefer to email your program uuencoded, please first
discuss this with us. This mode is also welcome, but we would like
you to contact us by email before the actual emailing of your
uuencoded package.
(While this is outside the scope of the current subject, please also
note that we cannot consent to the frequent requests of emailing
programs uuencoded from chyde.uwasa.fi archives, whatever your
difficulties in getting the files you want. Sorry)

Original-subject: University of Vaasa archives moved to garbo.uwasa.fi
Reposted-by: e...@ox.com (Edward Vielmetti)
Fri 25-Jan-91: The uwasa.fi anonymous ftp archives of PD and
shareware programs have now been moved from chyde.uwasa.fi
(128.214.12.3) to garbo.uwasa.fi (128.214.12.37). This move was
made necessary by running out of file space on chyde.uwasa.fi which
is our central computer, and which we need for the university's
immediate data processing needs. Garbo is a MIPS R2030 workstation
brought to the benefit of the net under the auspices of the computer
centre of the University of Vaasa, Finland, so that this anonymous
ftp distribution activity didn't have to be discontinued.
If you have been downloading by anonymous ftp (either manual or
batchftp) from chyde.uwasa.fi the only change you'll have to make is
the address change from chyde.uwasa.fi to garbo.uwasa.fi. Let me,
at the same time, remind you of the preference to use automated ftp
(batchftp) for your downloads. It is more effective, and more
convenient also for yourself.
If you have been using our mail server for downloading, the new
address is mails...@garbo.uwasa.fi and the new subject line
garbo-request. The body of the message is as before. Let me remind
you not to use mail servers, if you are able to use ftp, and first
look for a mail server near you.
These are not (nor meant to be) the instructions for our mail
server. If you don't know how to use it, DON'T experiment. First
ask Timo (t...@chyde.uwasa.fi) for the full prerecorded instructions.
If you have kindly been uploading files to us to the /incoming
directory, here we have made changes. The method is the same, but
there are now several incoming directories including:
/pc/incoming
/unix/incoming
If you are not a seasoned user of uwasa.fi archives, you are
welcome to email Timo for the prerecorded instructions (for ftp, the
mail server, and uploading), which have been updated in accordance
with the changes made.
Be prepared to the possibility that things may not be running
quite as smooth from the beginning as they used to. Until we
moderators, and you users, get the new system flowing we'll repeat
this posting if necessary.

Harri and I are reorganizing some of the files at garbo.uwasa.fi by
creating some new directories. It is a work that has to be done
gradually, and will thus span a lengthy period. I'm telling you
this since if you don't have our latest /pc/INDEX, some of the files
may not be where you expected them to be from your old INDEX.
In looking over our file lists, which offer you a free download
opportunity, one reciprocal request comes to mind. If and when you
know of newer versions than we have on our lists, we would welcome
the information. (And still better, the newer files to our incoming
directories, with a message about the upload).
