Microprocessor is Introduced

The New York Times

Santa Clara, Calif. -- October 25, 1985 -- The National Semiconductor Corporation introduced a new 32-bit microprocessor with three times the speed of its existing product. The new product, the 32332, will compete with the 32-bit microprocessor announced last week by the Intel Corporation. A microprocessor is the central chip inside a computer, and a 32-bit microprocessor can handle 32 pieces of information at a time.

Separately, the company's chairman, Charles E. Sporck, told the annual meeting that the company sees losses continuing for the remainder of the year, and at least through the first half of 1986 for the industry. He said it appeared, however, that the bottom of the current recession in the semiconductor industry had been reached.
