Redefining the markup language on the fly?

Hi,

The idea of being able to reinvent the markup language
on a document by document by document basis is an
interesting and somewhat appealing one.

However, it will make it impossible to completely
regularize the language as an SGML DTD. That is,
it would be impossible to parse a document that
added new tags in this manner.

Maybe that is not a bad thing. Frankly, I have my doubts.
But I am interested in hearing how others feel about this.
