WRT to the copying debate, I suspect that the ultimate solution to this
issue is to make it easier for people to find and use the originals than to
make their own copies. As the volume of information that's usefully
accessible expands (thanks to better latency, smarter servers, etc.) I
suspect that navigational issues -- indexing, search, retrieval, etc., will
assure that most people won't bother to invest a lot of time and money
storing lots of stuff locally if it's accessible via the net.
It seems very counter-productive to me to try and stop people from copying
article, though I would like to see browsers that make it *much* easier to
re-use URLs and URNs, which would have the same effect. If we create tools
that encourage people to share documents "virtually," a lot of the
intellectual property issues go away. Ted Nelson has been saying this for
years, of course.
