Indexes in HTML

I am trying to set up and index search in an HTML document but am
unsure of what the document should hold (I am trying to search on
product)
i.e.

<ISINDEX>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Test List</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<H1>Test List</H1>
<XMP>
Product Description
</XMP>

Perl Shell scripting language
C C compiler

Can someone please tell me th esyntax -- I can'f find it in the
documentation or on the Web
