Lynx Ver. 2.0.11 is now available for anonymous ftp from
FTP2.cc.ukans.edu as /pub/lynx/lynx2-0-11.tar.Z

( ftp://ftp2.cc.ukans.edu/pub/lynx/lynx2-0-11.tar.Z )

Lynx is a distributed hypertext browser with full World Wide Web
and Gopher capibilities. For an explanation of features and a demo,
telnet to "kufacts.cc.ukans.edu" and login as "www".

This release of Lynx has been compiled by me on the following platforms:

o IBM (AIX 3.2)
o DEC Ultrix
o DEC Alpha OSF/1
o Sun 4
o NeXT (Mine is an older version of NeXTStep, but it should work
with newer ones too.)

Binaries for the following platforms are available:

o IBM (AIX 3.2, will work with 3.1 as well)
o Ultrix
o Alpha OSF/1
o Sun 4

* see VMS note below

A listserv list has been created for the distribution of
Lynx related information and updates.
o Lynx-Dev@ukanaix.cc.ukans.edu

Send a subscribe request to listserv@ukanaix.cc.ukans.edu to
be added to the list. All new releases will be anounced on this
list. Please do not send subscribe requests to the the Lynx-Dev
list directly.

*VMS NOTE*
Lynx 2.0.11 has not yet been ported to VMS! After this release I will
begin work on the VMS version. Since the WWW Library has not
been ported to VMS since about 9 versions ago it is becoming increasingly
difficult to support VMS features. Expect the VMS version of Lynx 2.0.11
soon after the WWW Library is ported. (Port requests can be sent to
www-bug@info.cern.ch :) For the time being, VMS users will have to
continue useing Lynx version 2.0.10.

The following new features have been added:

o updated help and converted it to HTML. Made a new help location and
server. The new default help file is
http://kufacts.cc.ukans.edu/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html
o Added the ability to edit local HTML files.
I recommend using Marc Andressen's html_mode.el emacs macro
package with this.
o Lynx now reloads local HTML files and re-renders them after editing.
o Added document reload command. CTRL-R when pressed will reload
the document into memory and redisplay it, clearing the screen.
This is very useful when editing documents, outside of Lynx while
using Lynx for rendering.
o Added source view mode. '\' when pressed will reload the document
and display the HTML source. When '\' is pressed again the rendered
document will be redisplayed
o Added the ALT atribute to the IMG tag. If ALT is present within
the IMG tag then the value is printed instead of [IMAGE]. The value
can be set to empty by using ALT like this: <IMG ALT="">
Please use the alt attribute in every <img> tag you create!
o Added binary file transfer ability. When binary files are selected
the user is prompted for a file name to save to. The default directory
is the one the user started in. This should work for most ftp sites
and their contents.
o Added Nested Lists, up to six levels, with different bullets
for each level.
o added BR (linebreak) tag!
The <br> tag inserts a line break and maintains the current style!
The <br> tag may be used anywhere.
o Due to the fact that nearly everyone seems to use <p> to mean
two returns within the same style. I have changed
the <p> tag to reflect this interpretation. <p> can be used
anywhere and will mean insert two returns. (i.e. two <br> tags)
o added HR (horizontal rule tag!)
The <hr> tag puts a horizontal line seperating two bodies of text.
The <hr> tag may be used anywhere.
o Made the default Mime type for unknown file types on ftp servers
to be text/plain. Previously the WWWLibrary had the default
as application/octet-stream which meant that most files could not
be viewed.
o Changed the ADDRESS style to be more like XMosaic
Left flush, newline top and bottom
o The Statusline now displays the URL when retrieving files.
o All spaces, tabs and returns are now collapsed down do one
space.
o added '*' (stars) to unordered lists and numbers to ordered
lists.
o changed dir lists to be more like menu lists.
o all emphasis, physical and symantic, now have _underlines_
around them to show emphasis.

A partial list of bugs that have been fixed

o fixed incompatibilites with the NCSA HTTP/.9 server.
o files coming from HTTP/.9 servers are recognized by their
file extensions
o fixed bug whiched caused certain links beginning at the
begining of a line to be bad.
o fixed bug in LibWWW that caused it not to be able to convert to
www/source.
o fixed bug in LibWWW that caused most binary file transfers to fail
o fixed bug in LibWWW which caused a segmentation fault when some
anchors were left unterminated.
o a few other small bugs.
