NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh User Guide: Access Providers

SLIP and PPP

Access providers offer SLIP or PPP connections for a fee.

SLIP stands for Serial Line Internet Protocol. A SLIP connection lets you use a modem and phone lines to connect to the Internet without connecting to a host computer. PPP stands for point-to-point protocol and is another type of modem/phone line connection to the Internet. Both SLIP and PPP can be used with NCSA Mosaic for full information-access functionality.
